SANDIAGO GIG

A beautiful end to a completely insane couple of weeks.
Festival over, and slightly more tanned and relaxed, Outroads travel to Santiago on a hot dusty eve to play the capital.
The atmosphere compared to that of the ampetheatre in Vina Del Mar was relaxed, red hues, pisco sour a-plenty....lovely. Rhian sang with Geoff this time, renditions of the new album "Goodbye to all that," classics. Doubling up on vocals for a change, the two felt more able to communicate with the receptive, incredibly welcoming audience. (This was by no means "the monster," audience of the festival! saying that, Outroads really didn't experience any of the atrocities....how dare you whistle?....thrown at previous entrants.)
"Hold," was of course part of this 8 song set. Lighters out, people sat up and recognised the song from the endless tv coverage. Quite a sight. Very moving.
Completing the set with "Amigo Mio," Outroads enjoyed an intimate, well received gig. All cds sold, made all the more gratifying by the fact that this was in the Southern hemisphere! Beautiful!

Following Outroads were insanely infectious Brazilian band. With a justly deserved reputation as "One of South America's finest," these boys pumped out ludicrously up-lifting balls of sunshine that refused to be sat through. Not one person remained seated.....quite amusing actually, the contrast between those that dance as they breathe, and those slightly awkward English folk gyrating as inconspicuously as possible. Hehe. Brilliant. Energy over-load, high-on-life-ness down to a fine art.

HOLA FROM CHILE!

Wow...Wow..Wow.. is all we could say the first, second and third time we saw the size of the stage we were playing. Its got to be bigger than wembley!! What the hell are WE doing HERE??!!! It is incredible.. the most serreal experience anyone could possibly have! Imagine, walking out of your hotel, surrounded by security guards and being mobbed by teenagers for autographs as Franz Ferdinand walk past (playing tomorrow night). Its like one of those TV shows.. We are truly famous for a week! There is full coverage of the whole festival with Live TV interviews and photos at the festival website www.canal13.cl check it out to see just how big it is. We have more TV shows, interviews and gigs this week so we'll bring home as much footage as possible (mostly care of our own camera man of the 'BBC' Mr Shrappers) to prove to you (and me) that this was actually real!
Aside from the fame!?!? we have been spoilt with complements on the song from the other entrants from all over the world who should, and mostly are, famous in their own countries. We are singing along side stars and Rhian sang like one in both performances in front of a monsterous 50,000 faces and apparently literally millions of TV viewers. Here's another Wow for good luck!

THE WHITE LION - 9Th Feb 06

What a gig! Even the audience may have been proffessional tonight with incredible attention throughout. outroads rose to the crowd's expectations and put on a great last show for the road before Chile! Billy was on top form as per usual making the most of the enthusiastic people's wallets and too many to count albums were sold! ..a fantastically fat and sweaty atmosphere, hope you were there?!

LOOK NORTH CONTINUED - THE DOCUMENTARY

Following the success of the mini-doc shown on BBC1 Look North last week, the producers have agreed that the Vina Del Mar International song festival story should be properly documented.

So, Outroads (Geoff, Eddy and Lizz this time, with the inclusion of Geoff's sister Rhian.) are heading off to Santiago February 19th armed with a camerman who will cover the whole festival, and no doubt, the bits in-between! The festival organisers have now informed the band that they will be performing not once, but 4 times over the course of the 6 day festival. Currently attempting to find out how you can watch via terrestial means......

GOODBYE TO ALL THAT - ALBUM NEWS

As you already know, the band have now completed their mammoth under-taking. (16 track album recorded LIVE in 7 days.....)

The album will be officially available March 17th, the big launch date. This is Goodbye to that part 2. Some of these songs you've heard before, but not like this. Having listened to the un-mixed version, I would confidently describe it in the same way that I would a brilliantly made film. The direction is superb, the intro pulls you in, and right away, you know it's going to be a good 'un. It takes you on a satisfying journey via a channel which could be depicted as almost an epic sound-track....magical, gutteral, moving and complete..from start to finish. This album is a journey.

Ruskin Gig - 25th Jan 06

It has to be said that the fishbowl-like acoustics of the Ruskin wine bar, Sheffield City centre aren't made for the likes of 'Heads up' or 'Restless Spirit' but outroads played to interupted dining regulars until they were forced to enjoy the show..
Luckily, punters had been lulled previously into a false sense of calm security by the sweet and intricate voice and guitar of Danny Flecknoe who had people captivated. I even spotted the bar manager trying to poach him for his acoustic nights!
All in all a fantastic show!

blues cafe gig, harrogate

after a hairy start to the night at the blues cafe bar, Harrogate, outroads were determined the show must go on! mikes were begged and borrowed and stands were created from wood, celotape and drum stands! and what a show it was... the crowd were 'blown away' and simon, landlord, has already asked them back for more!
